FAQ
Everything small-business owners ask before hiring a web designer — what it costs, when you pay, who owns what, and what happens after launch. 42 questions, answered in plain language.
A standard custom website is $899, one-time, in Canadian dollars. There are no required monthly fees and no lock-in contract.
Every other service has a published price too — the services page lists them all. If something you want isn’t on that page, it’s quoted in writing before any work starts.
Extra pages, booking systems and custom features are quoted separately. An online store is its own add-on.
Not until you’ve seen your site. The order is:
If you choose a monthly plan, the first month is due when the site is finished, before it goes live.
Yes, in full, if you cancel before build work starts. Once the build has started the fee isn’t refundable, because the draft you saw first was free.
That never limits your options if I don’t deliver what we agreed.
By card through Stripe, Interac e-Transfer to connor@mcleodtech.ca, or cash. Invoices are due on receipt. Prices are in Canadian dollars and no sales tax is charged.
No — builds, add-ons and plans are fixed prices. The one exception is the App Connections Package: anything beyond the agreed setup is $75/hour, and it’s quoted to you before it starts.
These are paid by you directly to the provider, so you always see the real cost:
Yes. You get a real, working draft — real design, real pages — on a link you can open on your phone. You decide once you’ve seen it, not from a description or a sales deck.
It depends on how much there is to build and how quickly photos, details and approvals come back. I confirm the timeline with you before any work starts.
The biggest factor is usually content: the clock pauses while I’m waiting on materials, access or sign-off from you.
Don’t have a logo or professional photos? Tell me — we’ll work out what makes sense.
I draft the copy from what you tell me and what’s already on your social profiles, and you review and approve every line before launch.
Nothing goes live that isn’t true. No invented reviews, testimonials, stats or claims — ever.
Two revision rounds on the built site, following the draft you approved. Changes after that, or after launch, are quoted — or covered by a monthly plan if you have one.
The $899 build covers up to five pages, which suits most local service businesses. Bigger multi-page sites are quoted on their own, with page count and scope written into the proposal before work begins.
Yes, when it helps. I’m based in Langley and work across Surrey, Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. Plenty of clients are happy to do it all by phone, text and email, too.
Yes — a short, plain-language service agreement that lists exactly what you’re getting and what it costs. You can sign it electronically, on paper, or by replying “Agreed” to the email it comes with.
Yes. Once it’s paid for, you own the finished website, and you’re the registered owner of your domain. If you never call me again, your site keeps running.
Yours. With the standard setup, your domain, hosting and email are opened in your name and billed to your card. I get collaborator or limited access to do the work, and you can remove it whenever you like.
The exception is a Fully Managed plan, where I run the hosting for you — see the monthly plans section.
Usually on Netlify, in an account opened in your name. Many small-business sites fit within its free plan, but provider pricing can change, so I confirm what applies to you before anything is set up.
Yes — your web address (like yourbusiness.ca). You register it in your own name and pay the registrar directly, and I walk you through it step by step. Already have one? We’ll use it.
You get the full site files at handoff, so you or any developer can work on them. Most owners find it easier to send small changes to me — the Care Plan includes one small update each month.
Nothing breaks. With the standard setup everything is already in your name. On a Fully Managed plan, once invoices are paid I move the site to your own accounts within ten business days, with no release fee.
No. Monthly plans are optional. Your site runs without one.
Care — $30/month. One small content update a month (up to 30 minutes), monthly health and performance checks, uptime and security monitoring, renewal monitoring for your domain and email, and email support with a reply within one business day.
Growth — $99/month. Everything in Care, plus a monthly Google Business Profile post, a customer review-request campaign, help monitoring and responding to reviews, and a short monthly report.
Neither includes hosting — with the standard setup you pay your hosting provider directly.
Instead of holding the hosting accounts yourself, I run them for you. Fully Managed Care is $59/month and Fully Managed Growth is $149/month. They include hosting, DNS and SSL administration, backups, and up to two standard domain registrations or renewals a year.
You still own the website and your domain. Moving an existing site onto the managed setup is scheduled with you rather than switched on the same day.
Monthly posts and review requests only work once your Google Business Profile is verified and your name, address and phone match everywhere online. If that’s already in place, the plan works on its own — I check before charging you for setup you don’t need.
Anytime. Plans are month-to-month: cancel before the next billing date and the service runs to the end of the month you’ve paid for. Unused update time doesn’t roll over.
Every build includes basic search setup so Google can read and index your site. To show up in local results and on Maps, the Growth Setup ($499, or $299 with a build) sets up and verifies your Google Business Profile, fixes on-page SEO, adds structured data, connects Google Search Console, and makes your business details consistent across the web.
No, and you should be wary of anyone who does. Google decides rankings and verification. What I can promise is that the setup is done properly, so nothing on your end is holding you back.
No. Paid advertising isn’t part of any package. If you run ads, the budget goes straight from you to the platform.
Only real ones, from your actual customers. I never write or post reviews on anyone’s behalf. The Growth Plan includes a review-request campaign to help you collect genuine ones.
Yes. The Growth Setup works on an existing site if your problem is being found. If the site itself needs replacing, a rebuild follows the same process as a new site — draft first, then you decide.
Yes, two ways:
Either way the accounts are opened in your name and you keep them.
Usually, but it’s quoted separately. Only mail still stored on your old provider’s server can be copied — anything already deleted can’t be recovered by anyone.
Yes, with Shopify checkout built into your site. From $349 with a new build or from $699 on an existing site, with up to 10 products loaded. Most stores land between $349 and $2,000.
Extra products are added in blocks of 10: $80 from a clean Shopify spreadsheet, $150 if the list needs cleanup, or $300 if I enter them by hand. The store is in your name, and Shopify bills its own fees to you directly.
$499 one-time. It connects your website to the tools your business runs on — payments and subscriptions, booking and calendars, forms that land in a spreadsheet or CRM, and email or text alerts when something comes in.
Everything is set up in your accounts and tested end to end. It’s setup and testing, not building features inside your apps; anything beyond the agreed setup is $75/hour, quoted first.
Multi-page sites, automation systems and AI assistants are quoted individually. Scope, features, timeline, support and any third-party costs are written into a proposal you approve before anything starts.

What does Social Media Setup include?
$249 with a build or $349 on its own. Your Instagram and Facebook business profiles are created or cleaned up, branded consistently, matched to your site and Google, and connected to how you take bookings. It’s setup only — no ongoing posting or ads.
